Concrete Coatings for a Hot, Wet Climate
Epoxy flooring in Shreveport has to cope with heat and moisture at once. Wikipedia's climate summary for the city lists an average of 91 days a year above 90°F, average relative humidity of 72%, and more than 51 inches of rain a year. That weather is hard on bare concrete and even harder on a rushed install. A coating rolled onto a damp slab, or mixed in a garage that is past 100 degrees, can blister, cure badly or lift where the tires sit. On every floor we coat in Shreveport and Bossier City, we plan around the weather and the slab before we open a single kit.
Most of our work is in the garage
Shreveport grew fast after World War II. American Community Survey figures for 2019 to 2023, summarized by Point2Homes, put the city's median year built at 1973. About 53% of its homes went up between 1950 and 1979, and 67.4% of all housing units are single-family detached houses. A garage slab from those decades has usually taken years of oil drips, a coat or two of porch paint and some cracking. Bossier City, across the Red River, is younger. The same source puts its median year built at 1980, and about a quarter of its housing was built in 2000 or later. Newer slabs usually need less repair. They still need grinding before a coating will grip.
Clay ground moves slabs
A lot of the land along the Red River is heavy clay. The USDA's official description of the Bossier soil series, mapped on Red River flood plains in Louisiana, lists clayey alluvium from Red River sediments, 60 to 85 percent clay in the subsoil, smectitic mineralogy and very slow permeability. Smectite is the clay family that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Slabs on ground like that crack as the seasons change. At the estimate we map every crack. We fill the stable ones and leave control joints that still move as joints, so the new floor does not split along them later.
Heat, humidity and cure time
HomeGuide's epoxy cost guide says epoxy should be applied between 60°F and 85°F with humidity below 85%, and that it will not bond properly to a wet surface. A closed Shreveport garage in August can pass that range before lunch. We start early, read the slab temperature and dew point before mixing, and switch to a faster-curing polyaspartic topcoat when a long working time would cause trouble. When a storm is coming we keep the door shut until the coating has set. Winter is milder here, but Wikipedia notes about 35 nights a year at or below freezing, so cold snaps get the same check in reverse.
Systems we install
- Garage floor epoxy: a thick, ground-and-bonded base with a clear topcoat that shrugs off oil, brake fluid and hot tires.
- Flake floors: colored vinyl chips broadcast into the base coat for texture and a finish that hides dust between cleanings.
- Polyaspartic coatings: fast-curing and UV-stable, useful for one-day garage jobs and floors that see sun through an open door.
- Metallic epoxy: a poured, marbled finish for interior rooms, home gyms, bars and dealerships.
- Patio and pool deck coatings: textured, lighter-colored outdoor finishes that hold up to sun and rain.
- Shop and commercial floors: heavier 100% solids systems for service bays, warehouses and work areas.
What happens on install day
- We walk the floor with you and agree on what gets moved out
- Moisture readings, crack mapping and a look for old sealers or paint
- Diamond grinding of the whole slab, with a hand grinder at the walls
- Crack, chip and spall repair, plus degreasing of oil spots
- Base coat, flake or color layer, and a clear topcoat
- Written instructions on walk time, drive time and cleaning
Kits versus a full install
The Home Depot and Lowe's stores in Bossier City carry garage epoxy kits, and HomeGuide prices premade kits at about $200 to $700. A kit can work on a clean, sound slab in mild weather. Most kits rely on etching, though, and etching does not remove old paint, deep oil or weak surface concrete. On an older Shreveport slab in a humid summer, that is usually where a kit floor starts to peel.
Where We Work
Shreveport is home base, and Bossier City is right across the river. We also coat floors in Haughton, Benton, Red Chute, Eastwood, Princeton and Plain Dealing in Bossier Parish; Greenwood, Blanchard, Keithville, Vivian, Oil City, Mooringsport and Belcher in Caddo Parish; Stonewall and Mansfield in DeSoto Parish; Minden and Doyline in Webster Parish; and Waskom just over the Texas line. The housing changes as you drive. Shreveport has large neighborhoods of 1950s to 1970s homes with older slabs. The towns east of Bossier City, like Haughton, Red Chute and Eastwood, have grown quickly and have many newer garages. The northern Caddo Parish towns near Caddo Lake, like Vivian, Oil City and Mooringsport, are older railroad and steamboat towns with smaller populations and more rural lots. Each area page covers what we know about that town.

Common Questions
How much does epoxy flooring cost in Shreveport?
HomeGuide puts professionally installed epoxy at about $4 to $10 per square foot nationally, which works out to roughly $1,600 to $5,800 for a two-car garage. HomeAdvisor reports a typical garage epoxy job at $1,650 to $3,494. Crack repair, old coating removal and flake or metallic finishes move the total. We give you a written price after seeing the floor.
How much is 20 litres of epoxy?
Twenty litres is about 5.3 gallons. HomeGuide lists floor epoxy at about $40 to $100 a gallon for water-based or solvent products and $70 to $150 for solid epoxy, so 20 litres runs very roughly $210 to $800 in material. At HomeGuide's coverage of 80 to 200 square feet per gallon, that covers about 425 to 1,050 square feet for one coat, depending on thickness.
Does Home Depot do epoxy flooring?
Home Depot and Lowe's stores in Bossier City sell epoxy floor kits and supplies, from basic water-based kits to 100% solids products. A kit puts the prep and the timing on you. If you go that route, grind or thoroughly clean the slab, check it for moisture, and avoid mixing on a hot, humid afternoon.
Can you put epoxy on hardwood floors?
Epoxy can be poured over wood for craft and some commercial work, but wood swells and shrinks with humidity, and Shreveport air is humid much of the year. That movement can crack a rigid coating. We coat concrete only, and for a wood floor we suggest a finish made for wood.
Will an epoxy garage floor be slippery?
A smooth, glossy coat can be slick when wet, and cars bring in a lot of rainwater here. Flake floors have built-in texture, and on solid-color floors we can add an anti-slip aggregate to the topcoat.
What is the downside of epoxy flooring?
Standard epoxy cures slowly. HomeGuide says to keep vehicles off for 2 to 7 days. It has poor to fair UV resistance, so it can yellow in sunlight without a stable topcoat, and it needs a dry, clean slab to bond. We plan for each of those with prep, product choice and timing.
Why Homeowners Call Epoxy Flooring Shreveport
We test before we quote
Every slab gets moisture readings and a crack check, because humid air and clay soil are the two things most likely to ruin a coating here.
Grinding on every floor
Diamond grinding removes old paint, sealers and weak concrete. Etching alone leaves them in place under the new coat.
Work timed to the weather
We start early in summer, watch the dew point and the radar, and use faster-curing topcoats when conditions call for them.
A written, itemized price
Your quote lists square footage, prep, each coat and the total. Any change in scope is written up for your approval first.
