Across the Line and Still Close to Home

We bring epoxy flooring to Waskom, just across the Texas line on Interstate 20. Waskom is 20 miles west of Shreveport in eastern Harrison County, and its eastern edge is the Louisiana border. The town calls itself the Gateway to Texas. For us it is a short drive, and the floors here face the same heat and rain as ours in Shreveport.

A railroad town on the old trail

Waskom started in 1850 as Powell Town, a stop on a cattle and cotton trail between Dallas and Shreveport. In 1872 it became a main railroad station and was called Waskom Station. In 1881 it took the name Waskom, after a Southern Pacific Railroad director. Today U.S. 80 and I-20 run through town, and plenty of residents drive to work in Shreveport or Marshall.

Where the water goes

Waskom has no water area inside its limits, but it sits on a divide. The town drains north to Paw Paw Bayou and south to tributaries of Cross Bayou. Both flow east to Cross Lake, which drains to the Red River in Shreveport. So rain that falls on your driveway here ends up in the lake that supplies water to Shreveport.

That matters for outdoor slabs. A patio or driveway apron that holds standing water after storms is a poor candidate for a smooth, glossy coating. We look at how your slab drains before we quote. For patios and pool decks we use a textured outdoor coating that gives grip when wet and keeps oil and grime from soaking into the concrete.

Homes, rentals and work trucks

The 2010 Census counted 868 housing units in Waskom. An ACS estimate for 2018 put the number at 833. Wikipedia also notes that a two-bedroom rental in Waskom averaged $799 in 2020, cheaper than in Shreveport. That pulls in renters and the landlords who own those homes.

  • For homeowners: a flake garage floor that hides dust and handles hot tires
  • For landlords: a solid-color epoxy that cleans up fast between tenants
  • For shop owners: a thicker system for welding carts, jacks and spilled fluids
  • For outdoor living: a cooler, lighter patio or pool deck coating

Work trucks and shop floors

With I-20 so close, a lot of people here drive trucks for work. Diesel, hydraulic fluid and road grime end up on garage and shop floors. Bare concrete soaks those up and stains for good. We degrease the slab, grind it and lay down a chemical-resistant system so spills wipe off.

Prep is where floors fail or last

Most peeling floors we see started with a shortcut. Etching with acid, or rolling a kit over a dusty slab, leaves a weak bond. We diamond-grind the whole floor, including along the walls, and vacuum the dust. We fill stable cracks and chips, keep control joints working, and degrease any oil. Only then does the base coat go down. That prep takes time, and it is the main reason a coated floor holds up for years.

Texas heat, same plan

Waskom summers are long and hot, like ours across the line. We start installs early, read slab temperature and dew point before mixing, and switch to a faster-curing polyaspartic topcoat when the window is tight. We give you written walk and drive times when the job is done. Most two-car garages take one to two days from grinding to topcoat, depending on repairs and weather.

Waskom Questions

Do you work in Waskom even though it is in Texas?

Yes. Waskom is about 20 miles from Shreveport on I-20, and we do estimates and installs there just as we do in Caddo Parish.

Can you coat a patio that collects water after storms?

We look at how the slab drains first. A textured outdoor coating handles normal rain well, but a low spot that holds water may need attention before we coat it. We will tell you at the estimate.

What system works for a work truck garage?

We usually suggest a thick, chemical-resistant epoxy over a ground and degreased slab, with a tough topcoat. It stands up to diesel, hydraulic fluid and hot tires.
