Frequently Asked Questions
Epoxy Flooring Questions
How much does epoxy flooring cost in Shreveport?
HomeGuide puts professionally installed epoxy at about $4 to $10 per square foot nationally, which works out to roughly $1,600 to $5,800 for a two-car garage. HomeAdvisor reports a typical garage epoxy job at $1,650 to $3,494. Crack repair, old coating removal and flake or metallic finishes move the total. We give you a written price after seeing the floor.
How much is 20 litres of epoxy?
Twenty litres is about 5.3 gallons. HomeGuide lists floor epoxy at about $40 to $100 a gallon for water-based or solvent products and $70 to $150 for solid epoxy, so 20 litres runs very roughly $210 to $800 in material. At HomeGuide's coverage of 80 to 200 square feet per gallon, that covers about 425 to 1,050 square feet for one coat, depending on thickness.
Does Home Depot do epoxy flooring?
Home Depot and Lowe's stores in Bossier City sell epoxy floor kits and supplies, from basic water-based kits to 100% solids products. A kit puts the prep and the timing on you. If you go that route, grind or thoroughly clean the slab, check it for moisture, and avoid mixing on a hot, humid afternoon.
Can you put epoxy on hardwood floors?
Epoxy can be poured over wood for craft and some commercial work, but wood swells and shrinks with humidity, and Shreveport air is humid much of the year. That movement can crack a rigid coating. We coat concrete only, and for a wood floor we suggest a finish made for wood.
Will an epoxy garage floor be slippery?
A smooth, glossy coat can be slick when wet, and cars bring in a lot of rainwater here. Flake floors have built-in texture, and on solid-color floors we can add an anti-slip aggregate to the topcoat.
What is the downside of epoxy flooring?
Standard epoxy cures slowly. HomeGuide says to keep vehicles off for 2 to 7 days. It has poor to fair UV resistance, so it can yellow in sunlight without a stable topcoat, and it needs a dry, clean slab to bond. We plan for each of those with prep, product choice and timing.
Garage Floor Epoxy Questions
How much does it cost to epoxy a two-car garage in Shreveport?
HomeGuide's national range for a two-car garage is about $1,600 to $5,800. HomeAdvisor puts a typical garage job at $1,650 to $3,494. Where your floor lands depends on old paint, oil damage, cracks and the finish you choose, and we put the number in writing after the estimate.
What causes hot tire pickup?
Hot tires soften a thin coating, and if it is weakly bonded the tire pulls it up when the car leaves. Grinding the slab and using a thicker system with a durable topcoat prevents most of it. Waiting the full cure time before parking also matters.
Can you epoxy over a painted garage floor?
We do not coat over paint. The new epoxy is only as strong as the paint's bond to the concrete, and older paint usually lets go. We grind the paint off first.
How long before I can park on my new garage floor?
HomeGuide says to keep vehicles off epoxy for 2 to 7 days, depending on the product. A polyaspartic topcoat shortens that. We give you a specific time based on the system and the temperature that week.
Epoxy Flake Floors Questions
Is a flake floor more slippery than plain epoxy?
Usually less. The chips give the surface texture. The more topcoat we apply, the smoother it gets, so we set the finish to match how much grip you want.
How much do flakes add to the cost?
HomeGuide lists flakes, custom colors or patterns at about $0.50 to $2.00 per square foot on top of the base system. Full broadcast uses more chip than partial, so it sits toward the higher end.
Will a flake floor show dirt?
Much less than a solid color. Mid-tone gray and tan blends hide dust and tire marks well. Very light and very dark blends show more.
Can a flake floor go on a porch or patio?
Yes, with a UV-stable topcoat and extra texture. A plain epoxy topcoat outdoors can yellow in the sun, so we use polyaspartic outside.
Polyaspartic Floor Coating Questions
Is polyaspartic better than epoxy for a garage?
It cures faster and resists UV much better, according to HomeGuide's comparison. Epoxy builds thicker per coat and costs less. Many garages get both: an epoxy base with a polyaspartic topcoat.
Can a garage really be done in one day?
On a sound, dry slab of normal size, often yes. Heavy paint removal, a lot of crack repair or a damp slab can push it to two days.
How long does polyaspartic last?
HomeGuide lists a lifespan of 10 to 20 years or more for polyaspartic. Prep quality, traffic and how the floor is cleaned all affect it.
Can I put polyaspartic on my patio?
Yes. It is UV-stable, which makes it one of the better resin choices outdoors. We add texture for grip and suggest lighter colors for areas in full sun.
Metallic Epoxy Floors Questions
How much does a metallic epoxy floor cost?
This Old House lists metallic epoxy at about $5 to $12 per square foot. Removing old flooring, leveling the slab and moisture mitigation add to that. We give you a written price after seeing the room.
Can metallic epoxy go over tile?
We remove the tile first. Grout lines telegraph through the finish, and the coating can only be as strong as the tile's bond to the slab.
Is a metallic floor slippery?
The glossy finish can be slick when wet. We can add a fine anti-slip additive to the topcoat, and mats at doors help.
Can I choose exactly how the pattern looks?
You choose the colors and general style, such as soft marble, bold swirls or a lava look. The final pattern forms as the resin moves, so every floor is a little different.
Patio & Pool Deck Coatings Questions
Can you put epoxy on a pool deck?
Plain epoxy is a poor choice in full sun because of its weak UV resistance. Pool decks do better with a textured cementitious finish or a UV-stable polyaspartic system with added grit.
How much does it cost to resurface a pool deck?
HomeGuide puts most pool deck resurfacing jobs of 500 to 900 square feet at $1,500 to $10,800, with a national average around $6,200. Kool Deck runs about $4 to $6 per square foot and stamped overlays $7 to $20.
Will a coated patio be slippery when it rains?
It should not be. We build texture into every outdoor finish, either in the coating itself or with grit in the topcoat.
Will the coating fix my cracked patio?
It will cover and seal cracks that have stopped moving. A slab that is still shifting will crack again, so we may recommend joint work or leveling first.
Shop & Commercial Floor Epoxy Questions
How much does commercial floor epoxy cost?
HomeAdvisor lists commercial or industrial 100% solids epoxy at $12 or more per square foot and notes that commercial-grade coatings for high traffic add 20% to 30%. Prep and phasing affect the total most on large floors.
What is 100% solids epoxy?
It is epoxy with no water or solvent that evaporates as it cures, so the coating stays as thick as it was applied. That thickness is what makes it last under vehicles and equipment.
Can you coat our floor without closing the shop?
Usually, by working in phases and on nights or weekends. We plan the order with you so the areas you need stay open.
Will epoxy hold up to hydraulic fluid and oil?
A properly installed epoxy floor with a chemical-resistant topcoat resists oil, fuel and most shop fluids. Wipe spills up promptly, especially strong solvents, so they do not sit on the surface.
